Stablecoin Supply Board Screensaver
The Stablecoin Supply Board screensaver ranks major stablecoins by real market capitalization on a live bar board, drawn key-less from CoinGecko. It's free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Stablecoin Supply Board screensaver works
The saver fetches real current market capitalization for major stablecoins from CoinGecko, with no key required.
Coins rank top to bottom by real total supply value, with each bar sized to scale.
The board eases smoothly if the ranking shifts on refresh.
Readings refresh on a schedule to track real supply changes.
What backs a stablecoin, and what supply tells you
A stablecoin is a cryptocurrency that aims to hold a steady value, most often one US dollar. Designs differ in what is meant to keep the price there. Fiat-backed coins say they hold reserves against the tokens in circulation, crypto-backed coins lock up other digital assets as collateral, and algorithmic designs try to hold the peg through incentives and supply rules. That last category has a poor record: TerraUSD, an algorithmic stablecoin paired with the LUNA token, began losing its dollar peg on 9 May 2022 and fell to about 10 cents within a week.
CoinGecko calculates market capitalisation as price multiplied by circulating supply. For a coin pegged near one dollar that is close to the number of tokens outstanding, so the ranking on this board is effectively a ranking of how much of each stablecoin is in circulation, and bar lengths mostly reflect issuance and redemption rather than price moves.
CoinGecko takes circulating supply from data supplied by project teams, and shows a dash where it has too little information or doubts the figure. The numbers are reported figures, not an audit. Whether a coin truly holds the reserves it claims depends on attestations and regulation that this view does not show.
A worked example
You'll see the real current leaders at the top — the largest dollar-pegged stablecoins by market cap — each bar reflecting genuine on-chain supply, not an estimate.
Settings & tips

- Stablecoin supply is a real, widely watched proxy for capital sitting ready to deploy into crypto.
- Rankings can shift as issuers mint or redeem tokens.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a stablecoin?
- A real cryptocurrency designed to hold a stable value, typically pegged to the US dollar.
- Is a key needed?
- No. CoinGecko's public API is free and key-less.
- Why track supply?
- Growing stablecoin supply is a real, widely watched signal of capital entering the crypto ecosystem, ready to buy.
- Is it free?
- Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
- Why does market cap here track supply so closely?
- CoinGecko calculates market cap as price times circulating supply. Because a stablecoin’s price stays near a fixed value, the result is roughly the number of tokens in circulation.
- Can a stablecoin lose its peg?
- Yes. A coin can trade below its target if confidence in its reserves or design falls. TerraUSD, an algorithmic stablecoin, lost its dollar peg in May 2022.
- Does a bigger supply mean a safer coin?
- Not by itself. Size shows how widely a coin is used, but safety depends on what backs it, how reserves are held and who regulates the issuer.
