Zodiac Symbol Showcase Screensaver
The Zodiac Symbol Showcase screensaver rotates through all 12 zodiac signs and their traditional details. It is free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Zodiac Symbol Showcase screensaver works
The saver cycles through all 12 zodiac signs in their calendar order.
Each card shows the sign's real date range, element, modality and ruler.
The traditional symbol and birthstone are shown alongside the glyph.
Everything runs locally — no network, no key.
Where the twelve signs come from
The zodiac is a band of sky centred on the ecliptic, the Sun's apparent path through the year; it extends roughly 8 to 9 degrees to either side of that line. The division into twelve equal signs, each occupying 30 degrees of celestial longitude, dates to Babylonian astronomy of the late fifth century BCE, and the Greeks later carried it into Western astrology. The sign names, such as Aries and Taurus, echo constellations along that path.
Traditional astrology attaches several classifications to each sign: one of four elements (fire, earth, air, water), one of three modalities (cardinal, fixed, mutable), and a traditional ruling planet. The date ranges on the cards are the commonly printed ones; the Sun's exact moment of entering a sign shifts slightly from year to year, so publications round to whole days and sources differ by a day.
Birthstones and symbols are cultural conventions that have shifted over time and between traditions. There is no scientific evidence that a person's sign influences character or events; the table is best enjoyed as folklore and design, not as a prediction.
A worked example
Scorpio's card shows its real Oct 23–Nov 21 range alongside Water, Fixed, Pluto, The Scorpion and Topaz.

Frequently asked questions
- Are the date ranges real?
- Yes — the standard tropical zodiac date ranges used across Western astrology.
- Does this show a live position?
- No — for a real live position, see the Sun Sign Dial or Moon Sign Tracker savers.
- Is a key needed?
- No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
- Is it free?
- Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
- Why do sign dates differ between sources?
- The Sun enters each sign at a slightly different moment each year, and publications round to whole days. Some sources also shift the boundary by a day.
- What are the elements and modalities?
- Each sign is assigned one of four elements and one of three modalities. They are traditional categories used for describing signs.
- Is there a thirteenth sign?
- The ecliptic crosses the constellation Ophiuchus, but traditional Western astrology uses twelve equal 30-degree signs and does not count it as a sign.
