How the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees screensaver works

The saver rotates through a real, curated list of notable Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, drawn from the award's own published history.

Each entry holds on screen for a few seconds before easing to the next.

The list is updated by hand once each real award season, not streamed live.

It runs entirely offline — no key and no connection needed.

How the Hall of Fame chooses its inductees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was established on April 20, 1983, by Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records, and the first inductees were named in January 1986. The museum, on the shore of Lake Erie in Cleveland, was dedicated in September 1995.

For the Performers category, an artist becomes eligible 25 years after the release of their first record. A nominating committee of rock historians assembles the ballot, and a voting body of roughly 500 experts, including academics, journalists and producers, picks the class. Alongside Performers there are separate honours: the Award for Musical Excellence for veteran session and concert players (formerly Sidemen), the Ahmet Ertegun Award for behind-the-scenes figures such as executives and producers (formerly Non-Performers), and Early Influences for earlier country, folk, jazz and blues artists.

Because the criteria are about influence rather than sales, the list is argued over every year, and rock has been interpreted broadly. The year shown is the induction year, not the year of an artist's biggest records.

A worked example

A real winner appears with its year, holds for a few seconds, then fades into the next real entry in the archive.
