How the Eisner Award Winners screensaver works

The saver rotates through a real, curated list of notable Eisner Award-winning graphic novels and series, drawn from the award's own published history.

Each entry holds on screen for a few seconds before easing to the next.

The list is updated by hand once each real award season, not streamed live.

It runs entirely offline — no key and no connection needed.

The Eisner Awards and Will Eisner

The Eisner Awards are the main prizes of the American comics industry, named for Will Eisner, the cartoonist behind The Spirit and a pioneer of the long-form graphic novel with A Contract with God, published in 1978. The first awards were given in 1988, for works published in 1987, and the ceremony has been held at Comic-Con International in San Diego every year since 1991.

Their process is distinctive. A jury of five or six people draws up the nominees in each category, and working comics professionals then vote on those nominees. The jury often includes a comics retailer, a librarian and an academic researcher alongside other comics experts. That makes the awards a peer honour, which sets them apart from sales charts or reader polls.

Many winners are series that ran for years, so the year of the award may not match when a book first appeared. The saver shows a hand-curated selection of notable winners, not an exhaustive list of every category, and it is updated after each awards season rather than live.

A worked example

A real winner appears with its year, holds for a few seconds, then fades into the next real entry in the archive.
