Sweden's Back Bench Screensaver
The Sweden's Back Bench screensaver shows motions filed in the Riksdag, from the parliament's own key-less API. A motion comes from an individual member or party rather than the government, so this is the chamber's back bench — most never become law, and filing one is how a member puts a position on the record. It's free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.

What a Swedish motion is
The Riksdag is Sweden’s single-chamber parliament, with 349 members. A motion (motion in Swedish) is a proposal submitted to the Riksdag by its members, rather than by the government. The government’s own proposals are called propositioner and are a separate document type.
Members can file motions in response to a government bill, or during the general motion period, the allmänna motionstiden, which follows the government’s budget proposal in the autumn. The chamber office sorts the points raised in each motion and sends them to the relevant parliamentary committees, since decisions in the Riksdag are prepared in committee before the chamber votes.
The titles are in Swedish, as the parliament publishes them. The display shows what was filed, not what passed: a motion is only a proposal, and whether any of it is adopted is decided later by the committee and the chamber.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this real data?
- Yes — it comes from the source named on this page and is refreshed on a schedule.
- Is a key needed?
- No. This source is fully key-less.
- Is it free?
- Yes, and it runs entirely in your browser.
- What is the difference between a motion and a proposition?
- A motion is submitted by members of the Riksdag, while a proposition is a bill put forward by the government.
- What happens to a motion after it is filed?
- It is sent to a parliamentary committee, which prepares it for a decision. Filing a motion does not mean it is adopted.
- Why are the titles in Swedish?
- They are shown as published by the Riksdag, and the saver does not translate them.
