Eurovision Song Contest Winners Screensaver
The Eurovision Song Contest Winners screensaver is a real, curated archive of Eurovision Song Contest winning countries and songs. It is free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Eurovision Song Contest Winners screensaver works
The saver rotates through a real, curated list of Eurovision Song Contest winning countries and songs, drawn from the award's own published history.
Each entry holds on screen for a few seconds before easing to the next.
The list is updated by hand once each real award season, not streamed live.
It runs entirely offline — no key and no connection needed.
How the Eurovision Song Contest works
Eurovision is organised by the European Broadcasting Union together with the host broadcaster and the participating broadcasters. The first contest took place in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1956 with broadcasters from seven countries, each sending two songs; Switzerland’s Lys Assia won with “Refrain”. It was created to test transnational live television, promote television and encourage original songs, drawing on Italy’s Sanremo Music Festival.
Voting has changed over the years. In 1956 it was held behind closed doors and only the winner was announced; a public scoreboard began in 1957. Today jury votes and public televoting each count for roughly half of the result. The winning broadcaster traditionally hosts the following year’s contest, though there have been exceptions since 1958.
The archive lists the winning country and song for each year. The 2020 contest was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic and replaced by a non-competitive special, so that year has no winner. The winners shown are those recognised in the official record.
A worked example
A real winner appears with its year, holds for a few seconds, then fades into the next real entry in the archive.
