How the Cannes Palme d'Or Winners screensaver works
The saver rotates through a real, curated list of Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or winners, drawn from the award's own published history.
Each entry holds on screen for a few seconds before easing to the next.
The list is updated by hand once each real award season, not streamed live.
It runs entirely offline — no key and no connection needed.
The Palme d'Or and the Cannes jury
The Palme d’Or is the top prize of the Cannes Film Festival. It was introduced in 1955, replacing the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film, which had been the top prize from 1939 to 1954. The Grand Prix returned for the years 1964 to 1974, and the Palme d’Or was reinstated in 1975.
The trophy is a palm made from 118 g of 18-carat yellow gold, set on a cut-crystal cushion. It was redesigned in 1997 by Caroline Scheufele and is made by the Swiss firm Chopard.
The prize is decided by the festival jury rather than a public vote, which is why results reflect a particular panel’s taste. It can be shared: in 1993 it was awarded jointly to Chen Kaige’s Farewell My Concubine and Jane Campion’s The Piano, and Campion became the first woman to win it. In 2019 Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite became the first South Korean winner. The saver rotates through a curated list based on the festival’s published record and is updated by hand, not streamed live.
