Booker Prize Winners Screensaver
The Booker Prize Winners screensaver is a real, curated archive of Booker Prize winners for fiction. It is free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Booker Prize Winners screensaver works
The saver rotates through a real, curated list of Booker Prize winners for fiction, drawn from the award's own published history.
Each entry holds on screen for a few seconds before easing to the next.
The list is updated by hand once each real award season, not streamed live.
It runs entirely offline — no key and no connection needed.
A short history of the Booker Prize
The Booker Prize began in 1969, sponsored by Booker, McConnell Ltd; P. H. Newby won the first prize for Something to Answer For. It was originally limited to authors from the Commonwealth and Ireland, then from 2014 opened to any author writing in English, for a novel published in the UK or Ireland. The change was controversial, and Paul Beatty in 2016 was the first American winner. The name has changed with sponsors: Booker Prize for Fiction, the Man Booker Prize from 2002, and simply the Booker Prize since Crankstart became sponsor in 2019.
Winners are chosen by a jury that changes each year. From 2007 the longlist has been capped at 12 or 13 titles, and the shortlist has six. Jury decisions can surprise: in 1974 the prize went to two authors, Nadine Gordimer and Stanley Middleton, and in 1992 it was split between Michael Ondaatje and Barry Unsworth. After 1992 a rule required a single winner, yet in 2019 the judges split the prize between Margaret Atwood and Bernardine Evaristo despite warnings.
The saver shows a curated list drawn from the prize's own record, covering the fiction prize only, not the separate International Booker.
