How the Yield Farm Board screensaver works

The saver fetches real current APY data for thousands of DeFi pools from DefiLlama, with no key required.

Pools are filtered to a minimum real size, to keep the board to established, higher-liquidity options.

The highest real yields among those rank at the top, with protocol, chain and pool shown.

Readings refresh on a schedule to track real, changing rates.

Where DeFi yields come from

Decentralised finance lets people lend, borrow and trade through smart contracts rather than through a bank or exchange. A yield, quoted as APY (annual percentage yield), includes the effect of compounding, whereas APR leaves it out; a 10% APR compounded monthly is about 10.47% APY. DefiLlama publishes yield data for pools across protocols and blockchains, including APY and a pool’s total value locked in US dollars.

Yields have several sources, and they are not equally dependable. Some come from borrowers paying interest to lenders, some from trading fees paid to liquidity providers, and some from a protocol’s own token handed out as an incentive. DefiLlama’s data separates a base APY from a reward APY. Incentive yield can disappear abruptly, and a reward token may fall in price faster than the rate suggests. Liquidity-provider positions can also suffer impermanent loss when the price ratio of the two assets in a pool changes.

A published APY is therefore a snapshot, not a forecast, and a very high figure often reflects higher risk, a temporary promotion or a thinly used pool. Smart-contract bugs, governance changes and stablecoin failures are further risks the percentage does not capture. The board is information about rates, not a suggestion to deposit anywhere.

A worked example

You might see a real stablecoin lending pool yielding a modest, steady rate at the top — genuine current market rates, not a promotional teaser figure.

Settings & tips

Frequently asked questions

Is a high yield always safe?
No — real DeFi yields carry real smart-contract and market risk; this board shows rates, not a safety rating.
Is a key needed?
No. DefiLlama's public yields API is free and key-less.
How many pools are tracked?
DefiLlama tracks real data for thousands of pools across many chains and protocols.
Is it free?
Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
What is the difference between APY and APR?
APR does not account for compounding, while APY does. For the same nominal rate, APY is higher when interest compounds frequently, for example a 10% APR compounded monthly is roughly 10.47% APY.
What does TVL mean?
Total value locked is the value of assets deposited in a protocol or pool, usually expressed in US dollars. It is a rough indicator of size, and it moves with token prices as well as deposits and withdrawals.
Why can a yield change so quickly?
Rates depend on conditions in the pool such as borrowing demand, trading fees and token incentives, and part of the quoted yield may come from reward tokens whose price moves.
