Where Britain Funds Research Screensaver
The Where Britain Funds Research screensaver shows research awards from UK Research and Innovation, key-less. The endpoint advertises a page size and a sort and honours neither — asking for three records returns twenty-five, and sorting by start date returns the page in byte-identical order to no sort at all — so this is the newest within one page of the portfolio rather than the newest UKRI has funded. It's free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.

UKRI and its funding records
UK Research and Innovation, set up on 1 April 2018 under the Higher Education and Research Act 2017, is the government body that funds research and innovation across the country. It brings together the seven research councils (AHRC, BBSRC, ESRC, EPSRC, MRC, NERC and STFC), Research England and Innovate UK. Each award is made by one of those funders, which the record names, and UKRI publishes the details in its Gateway to Research database of funded projects.
Each record carries a title, the funding body, a category such as research grant or fellowship, a value in pounds, and a start date. The value is a commitment made when the project was approved, not cash already spent, and it is drawn down over the life of the project rather than paid in one go.
The award list is not a ranking of what Britain values, and a start date is not an announcement date. Because of how the endpoint serves its pages, which the saver description explains, the entries shown are a slice of the portfolio, not a complete or up-to-the-minute list.
A worked example

Frequently asked questions
- Is this real data?
- Yes — it comes from the source named on this page and is refreshed on a schedule.
- Is a key needed?
- No. This source is fully key-less.
- Is it free?
- Yes, and it runs entirely in your browser.
- Is the amount shown paid in one go?
- No. It is the value committed when the project was approved, and it is drawn down over the life of the project.
- Who receives UKRI funding?
- Universities, research organisations and companies, among others. Each record names the organisations involved.
- Does every UK research project appear here?
- No. Only awards in UKRI's database appear, and the saver shows just a slice of those. Research funded by charities, businesses or other governments is not part of it.
