Ireland, Measured Today Screensaver
The Ireland, Measured Today screensaver shows hourly observations from a Met Éireann station, key-less from the service's own public API. Every value arrives as a string including the numbers, so anything compared or formatted has to be coerced first. It's free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Ireland, Measured Today screensaver works
The saver reads the source described above and draws it on a canvas — no account, no tracking.
Hourly observations from a Met Éireann station, key-less from the service's own public API. Every value arrives as a string including the numbers, so anything compared or formatted has to be coerced first.
It refreshes on a schedule, so what you see stays current.
Colours and any options can be changed in settings; nothing is stored beyond your own browser.
What the Irish observations contain
Met Éireann is Ireland's national meteorological service, a division of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Its mission is to monitor, analyse and predict Ireland's weather and climate, and it publishes forecasts as well as current observations. Observations are reports of what was measured, as opposed to the forecasts the service is better known for. This screensaver shows one station's latest report.
Met Éireann lists 20 weather observing stations, most of them automatic. Core measurements at most stations include air temperature, rainfall, wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure and relative humidity. Twelve stations also record cloud and present weather, and a few omit some parameters: Markree does not measure wind, for example, so a missing value is not an error.
Keep in mind that this is one point on a map. Wind and rain in particular can differ a lot between a coastal station and one inland, and a report describes the recent past rather than what is coming.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this real data?
- Yes — it comes from the source named on this page and is refreshed on a schedule.
- Is a key needed?
- No. This source is fully key-less.
- Is it free?
- Yes, and it runs entirely in your browser.
- Is this a forecast?
- No. It is a report of what a station measured, so it describes the recent past rather than what is coming.
- Why might this differ from the weather outside?
- Conditions vary a lot over short distances, especially wind and rain, and the station may be far from you or sited on the coast.
- Does every station report the same things?
- No. Met Éireann's stations share core measurements such as temperature, rainfall, wind and pressure, but some omit parameters and only some record cloud and present weather.
