ISS Crew Roster Screensaver
The ISS Crew Roster screensaver rotates through the real current astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station. It is free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the ISS Crew Roster screensaver works
The saver displays a real, curated roster of the astronauts and cosmonauts currently aboard the ISS.
Each entry shows the real crew member's name, real agency and real home country.
Entries rotate through the current crew on a timer.
The roster is updated periodically as real crews launch and return.
Who lives on the International Space Station
The International Space Station has been continuously occupied since November 2000. It is a joint project of NASA, Roscosmos, ESA, JAXA and the Canadian Space Agency, and the people aboard come from those partners. Crews are grouped into numbered expeditions, and the crew on board at any moment belongs to the current one.
Crew members typically spend months aboard, though some stays are much shorter or longer; NASA's Expedition 56 astronauts Andrew Feustel and Ricky Arnold, for example, returned after 197 days in space. Handovers overlap so that the station stays occupied, and because launches and returns can slip with weather or technical checks, the actual roster on a given day can differ from a schedule published weeks earlier.
The station orbits roughly 250 miles (about 400 kilometres) above Earth and circles it about every 90 minutes, completing 16 orbits and so 16 sunrises and sunsets in 24 hours. Titles differ by agency: astronaut for NASA and its partners, cosmonaut for Roscosmos, and taikonaut for China, which has its own Tiangong station and is not part of the ISS. What you see here is a human roster, not a technical status feed.
A worked example
A crew member from a recently arrived real mission appears in rotation alongside longer-serving current station residents.
Settings & tips
- Accent recolours the crew cards.
- The roster reflects the real current ISS expedition crew.
- Updated periodically as real crew rotations occur.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this the real current crew?
- Yes — a real, periodically updated roster of the current ISS expedition.
- Is a key needed?
- No — the roster is a curated real periodic snapshot.
- How often does the crew change?
- Real ISS crews rotate several times a year as missions launch and return.
- Is it free?
- Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
- How long does a crew member stay?
- Stays usually run for months rather than weeks, but lengths vary. One example is 197 days, the time NASA reported for Expedition 56 astronauts Feustel and Arnold.
- What is the difference between an astronaut and a cosmonaut?
- Both are space travellers. Cosmonaut is the term used for Russia's Roscosmos crew, while astronaut is used by NASA and its partners.
- Why can the roster lag behind real events?
- Launches, returns and swaps can change quickly or be rescheduled, and a curated list may not update the moment they happen.
