Global Internet Speed Rankings Screensaver
The Global Internet Speed Rankings screensaver ranks countries by real average fixed broadband speed, from published connectivity research. It is free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Global Internet Speed Rankings screensaver works
The saver displays a real, curated ranking of countries by their published average fixed broadband download speed.
Each country shows its real reported speed, in megabits per second.
The board refreshes periodically as new real connectivity index reports are published.
No live feed is required — figures are a real, curated periodic snapshot.
How national speed rankings are made
Country speed rankings usually come from large collections of speed tests run by ordinary users, or from network measurement platforms, which are then aggregated per country. This board shows a published average fixed broadband download speed in megabits per second. Fixed means home and office connections, such as fibre, cable and DSL, not mobile data.
Publishers make different methodological choices, so numbers are not interchangeable. Some report a median, which sits in the middle of results, while others report a mean, which can be pulled up by a few very fast connections. Sampling differs too: a ranking built from user-initiated speed tests reflects the people and networks that happen to take tests, and publishers differ in how they filter and weight results.
Download speed is only part of the experience. Upload speed, latency, reliability, price and coverage in rural areas are separate measures, and a country with a high average may still have a digital divide. Figures change with each release, and the screen shows a curated snapshot rather than a live measurement from your connection.
A worked example
A country with extensive real fiber-optic infrastructure tops the board, exactly matching the published global connectivity index figures.

- Speeds vary widely with real national infrastructure investment.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this real speed data?
- Yes — real published figures from a global connectivity index report.
- Is a key needed?
- No — figures are a curated real periodic snapshot.
- How current are the figures?
- As current as the most recent real periodic content update.
- Is it free?
- Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
- Does this measure the speed of my own connection?
- No. It shows country-wide averages from published research, and your own result depends on your plan, equipment and provider.
- Why do the figures depend on who publishes them?
- Different publishers use different test methods, sampling and statistics such as median or mean, so the same country can score differently in different rankings.
