F1 Trackside Weather Screensaver

The F1 Trackside Weather screensaver shows the circuit's own sensors for the current Formula 1 session: air and track temperature, humidity, pressure, wind and rainfall. Track temperature can run twenty degrees above air, and that is what decides tyre strategy. It's free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.

How the F1 Trackside Weather screensaver works

The saver reads the OpenF1 API directly in your browser — no key and no account.

The circuit's own sensors for the current Formula 1 session: air and track temperature, humidity, pressure, wind and rainfall.

It refreshes on a schedule, so what you see stays current.

Colours can be changed in settings; nothing is stored beyond your own browser.

What the trackside sensors report

OpenF1 is an unofficial, open-source API for Formula 1 timing, telemetry and session data. Its weather endpoint describes the weather over the track and is updated every minute. Each record carries air temperature and track temperature in °C, relative humidity, air pressure in mbar, wind speed in m/s, wind direction in degrees, and a rainfall value that says whether there is rain.

Teams watch these numbers closely because tyres are sensitive to the surface they run on. Track temperature reflects heat absorbed by the asphalt and can sit well above the air reading, while cloud, wind or an approaching shower can change it within minutes. Wind direction relative to a straight or corner changes how a car behaves, and air pressure and humidity affect the density of the air a car runs through.

A record is a single reading for the circuit, so conditions elsewhere on the lap may differ, which is how one corner can be damp while another is dry. Rainfall is reported as a simple indicator, so it does not tell you how heavy the rain is. OpenF1 is not associated with the Formula 1 companies, so treat the data as an independent republication.

Frequently asked questions

Is this real data?
Yes — it comes from the OpenF1 API and is refreshed on a schedule.
Why is track temperature so much higher than air?
Tarmac in sunshine can sit twenty degrees above air temperature, and that is the number that governs how tyres behave — which is why teams watch it rather than the air reading.
Is a key needed?
No. This source is fully key-less.
Is it free?
Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
Why does rainfall show only on or off?
OpenF1 describes the rainfall field as whether there is rainfall, an indicator rather than an amount, so it cannot say how heavy a shower is.
Why do teams care about wind direction?
A headwind, tailwind or crosswind changes a car’s balance and straight-line speed, and the wind’s direction relative to a corner changes the grip a driver can expect.
Is this the official Formula 1 weather feed?
No. OpenF1 is an unofficial project and says it is not associated with the Formula 1 companies, so it is an independent service rather than an official feed.
