Airport On-Time Performance Board Screensaver
The Airport On-Time Performance Board screensaver ranks major airports by their real on-time flight performance, from published aviation statistics. It is free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Airport On-Time Performance Board screensaver works
The saver displays a real, curated ranking of major airports by their reported on-time departure percentage.
Each airport shows its real published on-time performance figure.
The board refreshes periodically as new real performance reports are published.
No live feed is required — figures are a real, curated periodic snapshot.
How airport on-time performance is defined
On-time performance is a headline metric for airlines and airports, but its definition is narrower than it sounds. The US Bureau of Transportation Statistics counts a flight as on time if it operates less than 15 minutes after its scheduled time in the carriers' reservation systems, and it measures arrival at the gate. A flight 14 minutes late counts as punctual; one 16 minutes late does not.
The BTS publishes on-time figures for the large US carriers that report to it, and commercial analytics firms compile their own rankings from schedule and tracking data. Datasets differ in which airlines they include, whether they measure departures or arrivals, and what timestamp they use, so a ranking from one source will not match another exactly.
Several factors affect a score that an airport does not control: weather, congestion in the surrounding airspace, and airline scheduling, since a schedule padded with extra time makes a late flight less likely to count as late. Cancelled and diverted flights are reported separately from the on-time rate, so a high percentage reflects punctuality of the flights that operated, not necessarily a smooth experience for every passenger.
A worked example
A hub airport with real, consistently high on-time performance ranks near the top of the board, exactly as published in the source report.
Settings & tips
- Accent recolours the ranking bars.
- Figures are a real periodic snapshot, not a live per-flight feed.
- On-time performance is affected by real weather and traffic seasonally.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this real aviation data?
- Yes — real published on-time performance statistics by airport.
- Is a key needed?
- No — figures are a curated real periodic snapshot.
- How current is the ranking?
- As current as the most recent real periodic content update.
- Is it free?
- Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
- What counts as on time?
- Under the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics definition, a flight is on time if it operates less than 15 minutes after its scheduled time. The same 15-minute convention is used by other aviation regulators.
- Do cancellations count against the percentage?
- They are typically reported separately, as a cancellation rate, so a high on-time figure does not mean few cancellations.
- Why do rankings differ between sources?
- Sources use different data, airline sets and measures, such as departure versus arrival, so figures for the same airport rarely match exactly.
