Twitch Live Viewership Screensaver
The Twitch Live Viewership screensaver ranks real live streams by real concurrent viewer count. It is free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the Twitch Live Viewership screensaver works
The saver reads real live stream data from Twitch's own Helix API.
Each entry shows a real game, stream title, broadcaster and real viewer count.
The pipeline refreshes the board on its own schedule.
A free Twitch developer app (client ID and secret) is required for this endpoint.
What Twitch viewer counts mean
Twitch is a live-streaming platform where broadcasters stream games, talk shows, music and other content, and viewers watch and chat in real time. Its Helix API returns currently live streams along with a viewer count. The figure is a snapshot of how many people are watching at that moment rather than a cumulative total, so it rises and falls through a stream and no longer applies once the broadcaster signs off.
The viewer figure should be read as an indicator rather than a precise headcount. Audience size can swing quickly during a stream, for example when a broadcaster sends their audience to another channel, and the number says nothing about how long each person watched or how actively they were engaged.
A game ranking by viewership therefore blends the number of live streams with the size of their audiences. A title with one enormous stream can outrank a game with hundreds of small ones, and the reverse. The listing reflects who is live at the time it was gathered, which depends heavily on time of day and time zone.
A worked example
A real stream with tens of thousands of real concurrent viewers sits at the top of the board, exactly matching Twitch's own count.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this real Twitch data?
- Yes — real live streams and viewer counts from Twitch's own Helix API.
- Is a key needed?
- Yes, a free Twitch developer app is required to activate this feed.
- Does this update every second?
- It refreshes on the pipeline's own schedule, a real periodic snapshot.
- Is it free?
- Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
- Is the viewer count total views or current viewers?
- It is the number watching at that moment, so it changes continuously and is not a cumulative count.
- Why do rankings change by time of day?
- Streamer schedules and audiences vary with time zones, so different games and channels peak at different hours.
- Why can one stream outrank a whole game?
- A ranking by viewers adds up audiences, so a single very popular stream can outweigh many small ones, and a game with many streams can outrank one with a single big channel.
