How the Super User Top Questions screensaver works

The background pipeline polls Stack Exchange — the Super User Q&A community for power users — every few minutes for new records.

Each new item eases up into its slot at the bottom of the list as it arrives.

A header shows a live/connecting indicator and the last update time.

No key is required for this key-less public endpoint.

About Super User

Super User is the Stack Exchange site for computer enthusiasts and power users. Where its sibling Server Fault is aimed at system administrators and IT professionals, Super User covers the everyday questions of people using their own machines: operating-system settings, command-line tricks, file recovery, hardware troubles, home networking and the quirks of desktop software.

Like other Stack Exchange sites it is a question-and-answer format: members vote questions and answers up or down, and a question’s score is its net votes. The score and answer count are the figures a ranking of top-voted questions is built on. Votes measure how useful readers found a post, not how current or correct it is, so an old, widely read question can keep a high score long after the software it describes has changed.

Answers are written by volunteers. The asker can mark one as accepted, which only means that answer worked for them, and other readers’ votes provide a second signal. Operating systems change often, so an answer that suited an older release may no longer apply. Treat the site as a searchable archive of practical know-how rather than authoritative documentation.

A real recent item scrolls into view with its details, then eases upward as newer ones arrive behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Is this real data?
Yes — it's read live from Stack Exchange, the Super User Q&A community for power users.
Is a key needed?
No. This is a fully key-less public API.
How often does it refresh?
The pipeline polls for new records every few minutes.
Is it free?
Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
What kind of questions belong on Super User?
Questions about using computers and software as an end user or enthusiast. Programming questions belong on Stack Overflow, and system-administration questions for professionals on Server Fault.
What does a question’s score mean?
It is the net number of votes from other members. A high score means many readers found the question useful, not that its answers are still up to date.
Does an accepted answer mean it is correct?
It only means the person who asked chose it. Votes from other readers are a second signal, but neither guarantees it fits your system or software version.
