How the Norwegian Departures screensaver works

The saver reads the source described above and draws it on a canvas — no account, no tracking.

The next trains, buses, trams and boats leaving a Norwegian station from Entur's key-less journey planner. Entur is the national data hub, so one query covers every operator in Norway, and the board marks which times are live estimates and which are still timetable.

It refreshes on a schedule, so what you see stays current.

Colours and any options can be changed in settings; nothing is stored beyond your own browser.

About Entur and Norwegian public transport data

Entur is a limited company owned by Norway’s Ministry of Transport. Norwegian law requires operators of road, rail and waterborne public transport to provide openly available public transport data through Entur, which is why one national journey planner and open API can cover trains, buses, trams, the metro and ferries across the country instead of each region publishing its own.

Entur’s documentation describes the data as structured by two European standards, NeTEx for planned timetables and SIRI for real-time information. The Journey Planner API, built on OpenTripPlanner, supplies departure boards for individual stops and journey planning for all public transport in Norway. For each service the board knows the planned time from the timetable and, where an operator supplies real-time data, an updated expected time. That difference is why some rows carry a live estimate while others show only the scheduled time.

Read a timetable-only row as a promise on paper, not a sighting of the vehicle. Delays, cancellations and replacement buses can appear late, and not every service has real-time data. The display shows what Entur holds at the moment of the request, not a guarantee about the next few minutes.

A worked example

Frequently asked questions

Is this real data?
Yes — it comes from the source named on this page and is refreshed on a schedule.
Is a key needed?
No. This source is fully key-less.
Is it free?
Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
Why do some departures show a live time and others do not?
Live times exist only where real-time data for the service reaches Entur. Services without it fall back to the published timetable.
Does it cover ferries and buses as well as trains?
Yes. Entur covers public transport across Norway, including rail, buses, trams, metro and ferries, so different modes can appear depending on the station shown.
What does a station name refer to?
A stop place in Entur’s data, which can group several platforms or bus bays under one name.
