NASA Tech Projects Screensaver
The NASA Tech Projects screensaver shows real technology development projects from NASA's TechPort database, gathered key-less by the pipeline: what is being built, at which centre, and over what years. It's free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.
How the NASA Tech Projects screensaver works
The background pipeline reads this from NASA TechPort and saves a snapshot the saver loads.
Real technology development projects from NASA's TechPort database, gathered key-less by the pipeline: what is being built, at which centre, and over what years..
It refreshes on a schedule, so what you see stays current.
Colours can be changed in settings; nothing is stored beyond your own browser.
What NASA TechPort tracks
TechPort is NASA’s web-based database of technology projects. It covers past, current and planned development, and NASA’s own help page says it captures applied research and experimental development, with information gathered through partnerships with each of the agency’s technology development programmes. It exists so that the agency, other organisations and the public can see what capabilities are being developed. These are enabling technologies rather than missions.
Public project records include a description, the responsible mission directorate, the lead organisation, partners, and technology readiness levels at the start, now and projected at the end. Alongside these, the saver shows where a project is based and its start and end dates. Because the records are descriptions of funded work, long titles may be truncated on the screen.
The technology readiness level scale runs from 1 to 9. NASA describes level 1 as scientific research beginning and level 9 as a technology flight proven through successful mission operations. Many entries are early-stage research or studies, a project listed as active may never lead to flight hardware, and future dates reflect planned work that can change.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this real data?
- Yes — it comes from NASA TechPort and is refreshed on a schedule.
- Is a key needed?
- No. This source is fully key-less.
- Is it free?
- Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
- What is a technology readiness level?
- A scale from 1 to 9 for how mature a technology is. In NASA’s description, level 1 is scientific research beginning and level 9 is a technology flight proven through successful mission operations.
- Does every listed project fly on a mission?
- No. TechPort covers applied research and experimental development, so many projects are early-stage work that may never become flight hardware or software.
