How the Magic Card Gallery screensaver works
The saver reads the source described above and draws it on a canvas — no account, no tracking.
The most recently released Magic: The Gathering printings with their art, set and market price, from Scryfall's key-less API. The query is bounded to cards actually out: Scryfall carries spoilers months ahead, and sorting purely by date fills the board with cards nobody can buy.
It refreshes on a schedule, so what you see stays current.
Colours and any options can be changed in settings; nothing is stored beyond your own browser.
About Scryfall and Magic printings
Scryfall is an independent, unofficial search engine and database for Magic: The Gathering, the trading card game that Wizards of the Coast first published in 1993. It indexes cards together with each separate printing of them across sets, and offers a public API for the data.
The distinction between a card and a printing matters here. A card such as a common spell may be reprinted in many sets, each printing with its own set and collector number and sometimes its own artwork. The gallery shows printings, which is why the same name can come back with different art. Scryfall’s prices come from marketplace affiliates rather than its own sales; according to its FAQ, it syncs prices from each affiliate every 24 hours, using for example the TCGplayer market price.
A market price is a snapshot of what listings suggest, not what you would get for the card, and it moves around releases and tournament results. Card images and symbols are copyright Wizards of the Coast; Scryfall states that it is not produced by or endorsed by Wizards and that parts of the site are unofficial Fan Content permitted under the company’s Fan Content Policy.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this real data?

- Is a key needed?
- No. This source is fully key-less.
- Is it free?
- Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
- What is the difference between a card and a printing?
- A card is the game object, while a printing is one specific release of it in a set, with its own collector number and sometimes its own artwork.
- Where do the prices come from?
- Scryfall syncs them from marketplace affiliates every 24 hours, so they are only an estimate that shifts.
- Why does the same card name appear twice?
- Because it was printed in more than one set, and each printing is a separate entry.
