Chess Streamers Screensaver
The Chess Streamers screensaver shows who is streaming chess at this moment, from Chess.com's key-less public API. The board shows only accounts actually live, so an empty screen genuinely means nobody is broadcasting. It's free, runs in your browser, and ESC exits.

How the Chess Streamers screensaver works
The saver reads the Chess.com API directly in your browser — no key and no account.
Who is streaming chess at this moment, from Chess.com's key-less public API.
It refreshes on a schedule, so what you see stays current.
Colours can be changed in settings; nothing is stored beyond your own browser.
Chess on stream
Chess.com is one of the largest online chess platforms, and it publishes a public, read-only API. It exposes player profiles, monthly game archives, lists of titled players (GM, IM, FM and so on) and a streamers endpoint. The documentation asks callers to send a recognisable user-agent and warns that parallel requests can draw HTTP 429 responses.
This saver reads the streamers endpoint, which lists members who have linked a streaming channel to their Chess.com account, each with a username, avatar and channel link. Chess.com's streaming programme places a streamer on its live list once they link a Twitch account and set the stream category to Chess. The endpoint's data refreshes about every five minutes.
The list is a snapshot, so it shifts as people go on and off air. It covers only streamers registered with the platform, not every chess broadcast on the internet, and a live flag says a channel is online rather than that a game is in progress.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this real data?
- Yes — it comes from the Chess.com API and is refreshed on a schedule.
- Is a key needed?
- No. This source is fully key-less.
- Is it free?
- Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
- Does this include streamers who are not on Chess.com?
- No. Only people who have connected a channel to a Chess.com account appear, so broadcasts that never registered with the site are missing.
- Does live mean a game is being played right now?
- Not necessarily. It means the streamer's channel is broadcasting; they may be talking, analysing, or between games.
