Jikan and the MyAnimeList seasons

MyAnimeList is a large community database where fans catalogue and rate anime and manga. Jikan is an unofficial, open-source (MIT-licensed) project that gets at MyAnimeList's public pages and exposes them as a REST API, covering things its official API lacks. It is not affiliated with MyAnimeList and is not an official MyAnimeList product.

Anime is organised by broadcast season, with a new batch of series starting in each quarter of the year, and some shows run across several. The saver asks Jikan for what is airing in the current season, showing format (for example television series, movie or original video), the number of episodes announced and the community score.

That score is an average of ratings given by MyAnimeList members, on a scale of 1 to 10. It reflects who rates, so early scores for a new show can swing as more votes arrive, and a niche title with few raters can score higher or lower than its eventual standing. An episode count may be missing while a series is still running.

Frequently asked questions

Is this real data?
Yes — it comes from Jikan and is refreshed on a schedule.
Is a key needed?
No. This source is fully key-less.
Is it free?
Yes — free, no download, in your browser.
Is Jikan run by MyAnimeList?
No. It is an unofficial, open-source project that is not affiliated with MyAnimeList, and it provides an API over MyAnimeList's public data.
Why is the episode count sometimes missing?
Long-running or open-ended series do not always have a final episode count announced, so the field may be empty until it is known.
